God, in his great love, created a way for us to learn about him, to draw closer to him, to be in relationship with him. It’s called the Bible...God’s Word. His truth is poured out in the pages of Scripture. If you want to meet God and know him better...read the Bible. If you desire to grow in your faith and knowledge of God...read the Bible.
But, how do I start reading and listening? You start with small steps:
Pick a time — be consistent
Pick a place — be consistent
Pick a book— be consistent
Start with the book of Psalms in the Old Testament and with the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the New Testament. Read a chapter or two each day. If it seems complicated or difficult to understand, move on and read another chapter, another verse. Read until you find words that speak to you. Talk to God as you read...then stop, pause, and listen to what he has to say to you.
As in all things, you become skillful and comfortable, the more you do it. Here’s a great bit of advise: put the You Version app on your phone and tablet. It will be a huge help in meeting God and learning more about him every day through the powerful words he has given to us.
As always, I desire for you to grow in your faith and trust in our gracious Savior,
Sure wish Tim and I could join you and Tom at the table each day. Your fellowship is a golden gift to us.
